Helium and Haiti Relief Scams

Just catching up on what might be happening at Helium these days and found a number of articles are being written to support Haiti relief efforts.

I'm really concerned that this is just another grab by Helium to bilk unsuspecting writers out of their time and effort, for little or no payment at all. All this under the umbrella of relief for grief stricken Haiti survivors.

Even just by clicking on these articles, Helium makes a bunch of money from advertising. Judging by how much they pay their writers, I suspect less than a single penny for each article goes to rebuild the devastated country.

Using National Television to Make Your Case

Residents of the United States may be able to take Helium to court for scamming you, without legal costs.

Unfortunately, I don't qualify, but you may.

The nationally televised show, with 10,000,000 viewers, Judge Judy, is currently looking for cases involving fraud and scams.

Check out Barbara Whitlocks comments on Heliumasia dated August 24,2009. Here she admits articles belong to the authors and therefore the copyright to them.

Backup everything you submit and be ready to submit them elsewhere when Helium closes your account.

Has anyone taken legal action against Helium?

I've spent a great deal of time reviewing blogs from disgruntled ex-Heliumites and can find no information on anyone who has challenged Helium legally.

That is exactly my intention. Someone has to stand up to the monster who takes advantage of thousands of innocent victims and gets away with it because no one person will gain enough to offset the legal costs.

I'm working on a number of high profile, low financial risk angles and will keep my readers posted.

For anyone who may be ahead of me, I'd love to hear about your lessons learned.

Is Helium a Scam?

Opinions often change as circumstances do. Just when I was beginning to believe that Helium had cleaned up its act, they let me down.

I’ve been writing and posting a lot of articles there lately, and the monthly payments were rolling in on a regular basis. Perhaps I was making too much money (about $100 over the year since I’ve been a member).

At any rate, I was accused of plagiarism on two recent articles and of course I challenged them on their accusations. I asked them to show me where the allegations came from. Not only did they not respond, but they’ve now shut down my access to their data base and refuse to respond to my e-mails.

This makes me really mad because I was due for another $25 payment for the month. Not only will I not be paid for my new articles, but won’t receive residual payments on the 119 articles currently under their copyright.

I won’t go so far as to say Helium is a scam, but they are operating under extremely unethical business practices. I am deleting all links to articles they will be paid for and now have to start all over again.
